Turkish Literature
9and 10 grades
" Improving the abilities of doing research, disscussing,
understanding, evaluating and interpreting.
" Improving taste of arts and understanding of arts
" Showing the relationship between literature and other research
areas and branches of sciences,
" Showing that Turkish cultural life, Turkish history and Turkish
literature are combined with each other by literary pieces.
" Showing that the literary pieces improve and gain richness
by time.
" Making them understand evaluate and interpret the written
and oral pieces they meet.
" Finding the elements of natural culture and global culture,
the elements of thought and taste and seeing a relationship between
them in all kinds of texts and especially in the literary ones.
11 th grade Turkish Literature
We can summarize the general aims of 11th grade Turkish literature
(literature, grammer and writing) as follows:
1. Teaching one of the most important and basic elements of national
unity, by reaching some special works of literature without changing
their properties.
2. Showing the importance of language with fixed values.
3. Teaching the students the things they listen to or read in details,
improving their ability to reflect what they hear, see, think and
understand by means of writing, speaking in a planned effective
and clear way.
4. Teaching the need of reading, imposing the taste of reading and
giving it as a habit.
5. Teaching that Turkish is a member of a language family which
is rich, productive and has produced detailed works from different
styles in history, and showing that there are still well-known works
in the Turkish literature worldwide.
6. Teaching the importance of paying attention to spelling pronounciation
and aesthetics of Turkish while writing and speaking.
7. Teaching norms and general values of Turkish society by the help
of literary works.
8. Preparing students to understand the importance and place of
Turkish literature among other national literatures.
9. Helping students have powerful, free and systematic thinking
as a habit by teaching them Turkish and literature and also giving
them power to search, discuss, evaluate, criticise and synthesize.
10. Giving them the habit of learning, using their knowledge, gaining
new knowledge, analyzing and synthesizing through the activities
of reading, writing and listening that are appropriate to their
grade and age.
11. Showing the students the collections of our cultures, beliefs,
knowledge and taste during the activities of analyzing oral or written
texts and producing new texts.
English
As TED Ankara College Foundation Schools, with the awareness and
responsibility of being the first private Turkish school whose education
is in English, we are aiming to give our students the ability of
speaking and writing in English, using English in national and international
areas and expressing themselves in the best way in a foreign language.
We can break down the aims of English education into three groups.
Short Term Aims
" Bringing up students who like reading a text that is written
in English, discuss it and comment on it.
" Bringing up individuals who can communicate in a foreign
language in the country or in foreign countries in daily life.
" Bringing up individuals that know using English in academic
level.
Long Term Aims:
" Preparing the language class students for Foreign Language
Exam (YDS)
" Preparing all students for English proficiency exam in university.
" Making them use the library effectively.
" Making them think critically.
" Bringing up students who can use time efficiently.
" Bringing up students who are able to solve problems.
Department Aims
" Besides literary works and grammar providing the students
with a non-artificial area by giving learning environment and worksheets
and also using authentic texts.
" Making the school and the students bilingual
" Bringing up students who are open-minded, tolerant and diverse
" Having the efficient use of non-class activities during teaching
and learning.
German
Aims:
The students who have chosen German as a second foreign language
in the Primary School come to High School with basic ability of
speaking in German, Grundstuge A1.
In High School the aim of German to be taught, starting from preparation
classes in the 9th, 10th and 11th grades and UB classes, is giving
the students the opportunity of improving their knowledge and knowing
the second foreign language in Grundstufe A2 level.
The start Deutsch 2 Level Exam that is done by German Culture Association
is taken by the students who want to enter the exam with reflecting
A2 level.
French
Aims: Communication is the basis of French education in our school.
Thus, the main aim of learning a language is using that language
as a communication tool, rather than providing oral and written
communication and grammer rules.
In our education program we recognize the scale of Language Improvement
File of Education Commitee of European Community about language
teaching. In this program, besides basic four components of language
teaching, recognising, understanding, criticizing, ordering, classing,
summarizing, relating, matching etc. and ability to use language
is also taken into account with this programme, we are aiming our
national programme students to communicate.
Aims
For our students to grow as an effective, productive and creative
individuals and to have a right to say during the progress period
of our country and to be prepared for the future with full knowledge
maths has a different and very important place. Our main targets
in maths are to:
- Use maths to solve problems in daily life and to have a happy
and high-qualified life by learning how to use some skills.
- Understand the mathematical terms and find the links between them
and use them in different areas of knowledge and follow the higher
level in maths.
- Express their own ideas and do reasoning while solving maths problems.
- Use mathematical language and terminologies for expressing and
sharing their ideas.
- Improve their problems solving strategies, make them use these
while solving the problems in daily life and make them gain self-confidence.
Computer
This lesson aims at making our students use the programs; MS Word
which is being taken for computer. Reading-writing, MS Excel for
electronic table, MS Powerpoint for presentation and besides these
MS Frontpage for web designing and Adobe Photoshop for gaining basic
picture designing knowledge and use them in their lessons properly.
Physics
Physics ib a quantitative science which deals with basic principles
of the universe, secrets of it, structure of matter and the relationship
between all these.
Physics Science, while trying to explain all these events in the
world benefit from some scientific methods like observations, doing
measurements, establishing relationships between events and proving
them by experiments.
Our target as the physics department is to make our students interested
in the physical events happening around them and make them observe.
The next step is to make them gain the ability to analyse their
observations by using scientific methods.
Chemistry
Targets
Chemistry is the center of our life. Everything is made up of chemical
matters and most of the things we do include chemical reactions
occur while cooking, taking the foods who have nutritive value.
Although most of the environmental problems are chemical originated,
it is interesting that most of the ways that control and fix these
problems are also chemically qualified, so chemistry concerns everybody.
As TED Ankara College Foundation High School Chemistry Department,
our main target is to bring up individuals who love his/her land,
can have a right to claim something during the development of our
country, become, intellectual, creative and productive.
Biology
Targets
Our main targets in biology for our students are to;
- Gain the habit of finding scientifically approached solutions
to the problems they face and gain the awareness of healthy life.
- Make them have the basic knowledge and ability about biology.
- Make them live peacefully with the other organisms in their habitats
without hurting them.
- Make them search and learn about everything.
- Make them have self-confidence despite all difficult conditions.
- Make them survive in the society by combining knowledge and ability
with productivity.
- Make them use the basic knowledge in their daily life and to make
them transfer these knowledge to new conditions.
Geography
Targets: The aim of geography lesson is to make students have the
ability of searching, using presentation techniques, finding relationships
between life and basic elements of the world, especially the change
in the context of human-nature relationship.
History
Targets: The aim of history lesson is to educate individuals with
the idea of "the generations who know their past can lead the
future" as Great Leader Atatürk had said, who both know his/her
national (history and world history, who can interpret it properly).
Our objectives are:
" To evoke an emotion of consortium which is coming from their
communication with previous generations and the present one.
" To make students know world better and to have a change in
order to play a responsible role in the society by making them gain
new knowledge and
" To make them gain time sense, to get them to comprehend short
term penetration of time in which the events and the peope are important,
average term penetration of time in which the social and economic
changes occur and long-term penetration of time which is about the
formation of civilizations.
" To get them comprehend how national identity occured by determining
the place of national history within the relationship network of
big civilizations.
" To make them understand the national identity can only keep
on by protecting it, change and becoming modern are not changing
the character, but the idea which Atatürk put forward "Reaching
the level of contemporary civilization and pass it can only become
real within this penetration.
Philosophy Group
Philosophy
Besides philosophy topics and their importance, aim of philosophy
lesson is to determine that human is a politic, ethic, esthetic
and religious existence, show them that they can solve problems
by using points of views from different areas by giving them examples
from philosophy and make them tolerant.
Psycology
The main aims of our lesson is to inform students about motivation,
excitement, psycological health, intelligence and personality. By
doing this, students can be aware of the importance of the reasons
of their behaviour. In addition to this, research techniques and
the concepts of development in terms of people, their surroundings
and other organisms are also emphasized while teaching the subject.
Sociology
The main aims of our lesson is to enable students understand the
structure and change in social groups and institutions, the reasons
for the change in social structure. As a result of this, students
can gain social concious by being informed about different points
of views related to different concepts in sociology.
Logic
Our aim is to inform students about the logical thinking, the content
of the logic during the first age. We also aim to give the main
concepts of the Aristoteles logic and dealing with new approaches
as symbolic logic develops. As a result of this, students can gain
a vision, in which the providing concept in logic is always in accordance
with the thinking system and justification of the events.
Knowledge and Human
In this subject we aim to enable students to know themselves conciously,
physically and spritually while equipping them with abilities of
the critical thinking, behaving uniquely and freely, using the mother-tongue
correctly, being aware of the concepts which constitute groups and
the interactions in those groups, taking responsibility, being tolerant
and lastly using all these properties in order to solve the problems
in the society. In our lesson, we also emphasize the importance
of globalisation, preserving cultural identities and we enable them
to apply all these values in their lives.
Human Relations
The aim of our subject is to make students know the social structures
and rules of the society, to gain new approach in the group as a
member of this group, having an effective communication and be adapted
in the society and contributed highly.
Music
Aims:
" To improve critical thinking about Turkish and world music.
" To enable students to obey the rules while practising music
" To understand the structures of Turkish and world music in
order to classify them
" To determine the motif, age, meaning of the music in tone,
harmony and rhytm.
" To use different musical/technological instruments from around
the world and be able to classify them.
" To have variety in composing and practising music to understand
Atatürk's point of view in terms of Turkish and world music.
" To evaluate all social events, improvements, composers related
to a specific period and also to understand history, culture, compositions,
voicing throughout the history.
" Finding hints by understanding musical symbols for singing
and playing instrument.
" Learning the rules of listening and interpreting music.
" Questioning Turkish and World culture, musical pieces, history
of music, composers, musical instruments, scientific developments.
" Doing research by using musical theories and presenting the
research.
" Using knowledge and abilities acquired through other lessons
in musical activities.
Drawing Arts
Aim of arts courses
" Applying art education according to the new multi-disciplinar
education parallel to national program in the areas of art, child
development and communication.
" Emphasize the importance of arts on the process of education
and applying educational tools.
" Development of the view of group work and direction of our
students to group work.
" Development of self-expression and organisation.
" Making sensitive, responsible and critically thinking students.
" Enabling students to graduate as sensitive citizens who have
acquired art intelligence regardless of their job/work in the future.
Physical Education
Our aim is for our students to be happy and honest citizens who
love their nation and country besides being physically and mentally
healthy through physical education and social activities. Our secondary
aim is to enable our students to spend their time in social, cultural
and sportive activities at or out of the school, as well as to develop
creative and productive abilities.
While the courses are done in two gymnasiums, two football pitches
covered with basketball, voleyball, and athletics areas in open
spaces which are found in the campus, the procedure of the courses
are based on the teacher and student-centered techniques. When the
weather is suitable, the courses are done in open space gymnasium
in order to let students benefit from the sun and fresh air.
In our school physical education courses are planned for each class'
age, learning level, apart from the students' interests and needs,
taking suitable areas for the courses into consideration the aim
is to develop students' posture, it is also important not to force
the students too much. There are also some subjects like Atatürk
and sports, tidiness to be covered. In addition to this basketball,
handball, tennis, badminton, table tennis, folk dance are done under
supervision of the experienced teachers in each area.
Religion and Ethics
In religion and ethics classes, our main aims are to help our students
to understand that they are able to combine their beliefs with their
open mind and realize that the religion tries to contribute to the
formation of acceptance and open-mindedness, as well as to the settlement
of an universal peace, culture, also to introduce the key points
of beliefs, rituals and ethics along with giving our students the
idea that the cultures other than their own should also be evaluated
with respect and acceptance, to help them acquire the talent required
to realize the element of love within religion and its indispensability
for humanity, in addition to approach everything in a positive and
loving way, as well as to help them have a rational and critical
approach and distinguish between accurate religious information
and superstitions or gossip, as well as between the sufficient and
insufficient in terms of religion.
Our students catch up, by means of this course, that wisdom is
the main prerequisite of religious responsibility, religion and
science are for human's happiness and secularism is the guarantee
of freedom of religion and conscience.
